Overview

The Marangu Route has been referred to as the ‘Coca Cola’ route and this has led potential climbers to think that it is an easy route to the summit. This is far from the truth to be honest! The fact that it requires a minimum of 5 days to complete it does not mean that it is easier than any other route. The only reason that people say it is easier is because it is the only route up where you sleep in huts as opposed to tents. An optional acclimatization day at Horombo Huts is highly recommended for those with no prior trekking in altitude experience under their belt. Advance booking of hut accommodation is required to avoid any inconveniences. The route starts from the park headquarters in the village of Marangu and heads straight westwards towards Kibo. The trail goes through lush rainforest, heath and moorland to alpine desert and ultimately the arctic zone at the peak and same route down.

Our Unforgettable Tanzania Classic Safari

We just finished an incredibly wonderful one-week safari with Kilimanjaro and Safaris Africa. Starting with the punctual pickup at the airport, to the professional morning pre-safari breafing, to the organized kite-luggage storage, everything worked according to plan and on time. A top organization. At this point I would like to make a special mention of our EXCELLENT tour guide - Stanley Ayo. With his extremely courteous, calm manner we felt safe and comfortable at all times. Even when the road was bumpy and uneven, he drove us safely and with foresight through the Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. He knows his job very well and you can see that he is very passionate about it. With his incredible knowledge about the animals, nature and culture of Tanzania, he answered all kinds of questions or shared his knowledge with us. Stanley is also not too shy for a joke and so a wonderful atmosphere was created during our adventure. All in all we can highly recommend Kilimanjaro and Safaris Africa and especially Stanley Ayo. Thank you for the unforgettable time with you, Stanley; we wish you and your family all the best for the future. Hope to see you soon on our next safari with you. Kind regards from the Swiss
